The Maine merchant and marine flag is intended to be flown on vessels that call Maine home. It was designated by the Maine Legislature in March 1939 and also known as the state naval ensign.

Being a Mainer, I'm excited about our new old state flag. I was in need of an american boat flag and came across the 1901 webpage and Maine Burgee. I'm so happy to have high quality Maine made flags on my sailboat. I contacted customer service briefly and had an exceptional interaction.
